Horseback Riding at Hacienda Tijax

Now that the weather is improving and we are approaching the dry (less rainy) season a great way to enjoy the landscape of Izabal is to take the Horseback Riding tour at Hacienda Tijax. During the ride, which last just over two hours, you will see beautiful rolling hills and ride safely with our Guide Raul to various points of interest:
- A short hike will bring you to the 300 foot long 60 foot high canopy bridge allowing you to enjoy a spectacular view of the Primary Rain Forest.
- After a short climb to the hilltop one dismounts again and goes up the "Shaman Tower" for a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole Izabal-Rio Dulce Watershed. On a clear day you can see from Sarstun Hill to El Estor Mountains, Sierra de las Minas and the Rio Dulce Bridge and Fronteras. click on pic at the bottom to enlarge

- A ride through our reforestation projects will allow you to learn about rubber production, our tree nurseries and Raul will tap a tree for you to see the rubber spilling into the cup.
- After a quick return downhill the final stop is at our Crystal clear spring fed pool where a dip is recommended for the cool refreshing water.
Please don't forget to bring long pants, swimming gear, hat, camera, water, binoculars if you enjoy birdwatching and bug spray if you are sensitive to bug bites.
